Katy, TX–Saturday night saw 24 riders put their skills to the test over the challenging 3* course where five pairs made it into the jump off. The youngest competitor, Brooke Peterson, took the win on her own Uqualin DuSaulcy, a 12 year old Selle Francais gelding. To add even more excitement to the night, her sister, Nicole also had a clean first round, but a light rub resulting in a knockdown at the final fence in the jump off moved her to third on her mare, Ramona De Flobecq.
The $100,000 prize was the largest Grand Prize ever awarded in Texas and because the Peterson sisters are willing to put in the hard work, they took home four shares. Brooke and Nicole ride with Peter Petschenig of Petschenig Show Jumping, LLC in Pilot Point, just outside Dallas. “Let me tell you how hard these girls work.” said, Petschenig. “When it’s hot, they get up every day at 4:30 am and come to ride their horses before going to school and work.”

”Brooke, 16, is enrolled in public school and just started riding in Grand Prix competition in the fall of 2019. “Saulcy, my horse, is new. I’ve only had him since last June. I started with him in 1.20m and then we moved up, although he did Grand Prix classes before we bought him.” A big Grand Prix class would have most riders on edge, but Brooke said, “I wasn’t too nervous going in because I know he’s going to take care of me and I can just go out there and have fun.”
Asked about her favorite thing about Uqualin DuSaulcy, Peterson said, “I love his face and his eyes, he has really light colored eyes, which are really beautiful and he’s very cuddly.
Ramona De Flobecq showed off her amazing jumping skill in the ring, but her other skill was on display back at the barn, begging for treats. “She will flip her lip up and smile, because she knows I’ll keep giving her more if she does that,” said Brooke’s sister Nicole. After graduating from college, 23 year old Nicole Peterson is now working in marketing, “In college I got to ride all the time, but now I’m working full time, so it’s a struggle to really focus on my riding.” Nicole was definitely focused tonight with her third place finish on Ramona De Flobecq and a twelfth place finish on Diokaldo. All four of the Petersons’ mounts finished in the money.

For Immediate Release - Kim Beaudoin for CHP Parker, CO – July 18, 2017- Week six of the Summer In The Rockies Series (SIR) concluded at The Colorado Horse Park (CHP) on Sunday, July 16, after another successful week of top hunter, jumper, and equitation competition. Peter Petschenig of Pilot Point, TX, and Con Spirit were victorious in the highlight class of the week on Saturday, July 15, the $80,000 Front Range Kubota Grand Prix. Petschenig and the 2006 Westphalian gelding (Con Cento x Utah) owned by Petschenig Showjumping, LLC, rose to the top of the class bosting 28 horse and rider combinations, and ended the night with a victory after a jump off time of 53.736 seconds. Kelli Cruciotti of Elizabeth, CO, guided Hadja Van Orshof, owned by Serenity Farm, to second place after completing the jump-off track in 54.772 seconds. Third place was awarded to Mandy Porter of Encinitas, CA, piloting Coral Reef Follow Me II, owned by Coral Reef Ranch, who finished the short track in 55.24 seconds. “He jumped fantastically tonight. He really stepped up to the plate this show, and I’ve only been riding him for about a month. I’ll have to give him back, as he belongs to my fiancé,” laughed Petschenig. “In the jump-off, I just didn’t try too hard. I tried to stay on the inside track and was lucky enough and fast enough, and at the end of the day, that’s what it came down to.” |
Petschenig took over the ride for his fiancé, show jumper Nathalie Cooper, who is expecting a baby in August. He explained, “Nathalie bought him when he was a six-year-old she rode him up to grand prix. I’ve taken over the ride until she gets back in the tack. We started out together at the end of HITS Thermal and we had a little bit of trouble finding our rhythm when starting out. We are doing good now though and I am looking forward to the next couple of shows that I have with him.”
Petschenig and Con Spirit, known as “Henry” in the barn, will take a brief break in August before continuing on to contest the Longines FEI World Cup™ North American League West Coast competitions through the rest of the fall season.
“We will have a little break when the baby comes in August,” said Petschenig. “Then we are going to go on the FEI World Cup™ Tour on the West Coast with Sacramento, Del Mar and Las Vegas. We will see how Sacramento goes and if I have a good horse then maybe I can send it on to more of the FEI World Cup™ classes Canada and go from there. I will take it step by step, but he is jumping great. Maybe he is a championship horse. We’ll find out.”

San Juan Capistrano | APRIL 10, 2017
Peter Petschenig and Saint Quentin Claim $40,000 Spring Classic III Grand Prix, presented by The Ritz-Carlton, Laguna Niguel April 9, 2017 – San Juan Capistrano – The grassy knoll of the Rancho Mission Viejo Riding Park at San Juan Capistrano was filled with fans this Sunday afternoon as a crowd gathered to watch the $40,000 Spring Classic III Grand Prix, presented by The Ritz-Carlton, Laguna Niguel. Peter Petschenig galloped to a sweeping victory aboard Saint Quentin in an unbeatable time of 40.24. Thirty-six horse and rider combinations attempted to master the difficult track set by Puerto Rican FEI Course Designer Mauricio Garcia Ballesteros. Sixteen efforts resulted in fallen rails throughout the course, namely at the oxer at fence 8 and the three-stride line, fences 10 and 11, by the in-gate. The time allowed played a crucial role as well, as Ballesteros predicted it would. Eleven riders incurred time faults, two of whom cleared all the fences and were left solely with faults from the clock. Eight entries managed to navigate the 1.45-1.50m course fault-free, and Petschenig piloted three of those eight horses. He finished with unfortunate scores of four faults on two of his three jump-off mounts, but earned the overall win without question on his final attempt with Saint Quentin. “He can be super fast,” Petschenig said of his 14-year-old partner of six years. “I tried to stay on the inside track, but I didn’t force it too hard because the other ones weren’t that extremely fast. Today was lucky.” Petschenig noted with a laugh that he has never jumped a track designed by Ballesteros clear before. Today was a turning point, however, for he managed to pilot three to the jump-off, one of which was double clear. For the win, Petschenig was also awarded a pair of Roeckl Sports riding gloves and EquiFit MultiTeq™ front boots. |
